Well, our school year is in full swing! This year seems busier than ever, but I love it, because I know someday, I'm going to miss this busyness with my girls!
Kallie finished out her Special Olympics(SO)Bowling at the end of September. She really enjoyed it, even though, I must say, it was quite disorganized! But we are going to give it another shot next year and see how it goes! The next sport we are going to try is Basketball, also with SO. She will be going through the basketball skills section of it, until she gets the hang of the game and then will move to a 3 on 3 player game. I am so excited for her and pray she likes it. We are doing our best to get her up and moving now that her wounds are healed and there are no more limitations on her. Kallie also started a Zumba class. At first it was just for special needs, but now it's combined with typical children as well. Today was the first combo class. Kallie was a little overwhelmed by the faster pace that was set, but I am praying that she sticks it out and will learn the moves and enjoy it! Zumba really is a lot of fun! I'm so thankful for the instructor that put the program together, he is such a nice guy, and seems to have a big heart!
On the health front, Kallie is doing relatively well. No big surprises here lately, so that is a bonus! Thank you Jesus! We had her first endocrinologist appointment last week since her surgery. Sadly, because of her EXTREME decrease of activity the last few months, she has put on some weight. A BIG reason why we are getting her so active! We don't want her going into another surgery with the added weight AND it's just not healthy, nor does it look it! So we are taking steps to getting the whole family active and pushing her to get up and move! Big props to the Wii and Just Dance! That kid wakes up and that's the first thing she does! Love it! Love her!
Prayer requests for Kallie would be that we are able to keep her on the pump, it's very expensive for us to keep her on it with our insurance, and we aren't sure how much longer we can hold on. Please pray also that we are successful in getting her weight down. If you could also pray for her scars to lighten up and stop peeling that would be awesome. I know that they have to be cut into anyways in less than a year, but they really are ugly looking!
Brittany has had quite a few months! She did her surfing for sandals project for American Heritage Girls, then she went with other girls from her troop and they decorated sandals and got items ready for Operation Christmas Child boxes. Last night they went on an overnight camping trip, Brit's first ever camping trip! She had a blast and I am sure a family camping trip is in the future! Also, this past Thursday, she started playing soccer for a home school athletic program called South Florida HEAT. She practices every weekday from 12:30-3! It's intense! Thursday she wanted to quit, but Friday she pushed through and is very excited to be part of this awesome organization! She sees the difference of a city rec sport versus a sport where they not only build on your skill as a soccer play but challenge you as a Christian!
So we have adjusted school work and now our days are split. I work with Brittany starting at 8 till we leave for practice and we finished up anything after(she's typically done before) and then I work with Kallie during her practice and after as well. Kallie is taking it all in stride, being very patient. What a blessing!
This Sunday is the 2011 Buddy Walk. I can't believe this is my 6th year involved in planning the walk. WAIT rephrase, this is OUR 6th year being involved! That's right, my awesome husband comes out with us at 5:30 in the morning to get everything ready for the awesome day! I'm very blessed to have an involved husband and father! This year our team is the biggest it's been with 31 walkers! Brittany, along with a group of AHG, will be performing a community service project to earn a badge at the BW! They are going to do crafts and face/hand painting on the kids. Brittany was so excited to bring something to the group. You see, one of the badges is to work with children with disabilities and this event, gives them the chance to do that!
Well, that's about all for now, if your still ready! LOL
